In December of 2018, the Elizabeth Police Department was issued a certificate of authorization from the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to operate our Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) program. We currently fly a total of 11 Unmanned Aircraft System’s, 3 are for training and 8 are to assist in public safety operations. There are eight pilots assigned to the UAS team, 2 detectives, 2 ESU members, and 4 patrol officers. The drone program is quickly becoming an invaluable tool in law enforcement especially in improving and addressing security risks.
