The Elizabeth Police Department’s Emergency Service Unit (ESU) provides a highly trained and skilled tactical team as a resource in handling critical incidents. The primary objective of the ESU is the preservation of life and the resolution of high-risk law enforcement situations. They are equipped to utilize the tools at their disposal with the minimum amount of force. The ESU specializes in warrant service, forced entry, barricaded subjects, hostage situations, emotionally disturbed persons, crowd control, terrorist activities, HAZMAT, weapons of mass destruction, CBRNE (Chemical Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive) and animal control. The Emergency Service Unit is comprised of a Lieutenant, 6 Sergeants, 15 patrolmen, and 2 detectives.
