Internal Affairs

The Internal Affairs Unit has the duty to fairly, objectively, and thoroughly investigate all internal affairs complaints to their logical conclusion, while keeping the complainant informed of the status of their complaint. Internal Affairs is instrumental in preserving the integrity, which is critical to the proper function of the police department. The Internal Affairs Unit operates under the general direction of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. In accordance with the Attorney General’s guideline, all complaints made against a police officer, with a hint of criminality, are forwarded to the Union County Prosecutors Office for a full investigation.

If you have a concern or complaint regarding a police officer, please complete the Internal Affairs Report Form. This form can be submitted electronically to or mailed to the Internal Affairs Unit at 1 Police Plaza, Elizabeth, New Jersey, 07201.
