11th Annual Play Ball for Miracles Charity Softball Tournament
Sat May 9, 2015 9:00 am
The Elizabeth NJ Firemen’s Federal Credit Union will once again sponsor the Playball for Miracles Charity Softball Tournament(Warinanco Park)to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) and the families of firefighters and police officers who have children with special needs.
This 3 division softball tournament is open to Men’s and Co-Ed Softball Teams. Men’s Division is split into Wood Bat and Metal Bat Divisions. It is co-sponsored by ASA and therefore, ASA rules apply. All teams are guaranteed to play at least 3 games in this one-pitch, slow-pitch tournament. (One pitch means every batter starts with a full count). Co-Ed teams are required to have 3 members of the opposite gender on the field at all times.
The top two teams in each division then go on to play in the championship games. With both the Champions and Runners-up receiving team trophies.
Playball for Miracles was created in 2005 after an Elizabeth NJ Firefighter’s son was diagnosed with a bleeding disorder so rare that it still has no name. PBFM was created as a way to raise awareness of his disease and raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. All proceeds from the day’s events are donated directly to CMNH for use in hospitals that specialize in caring for kids with illnesses, birth defects, injuries, etc. The money from our event goes to PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick and Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside.
In addition to teams, we are accepting donations for our prize raffles, community and business sponsors through our Buy-a-Ball Campaign. Personal donations of any amount are always accepted and appreciated.
We also need volunteers! Playball for Miracles is a stand-alone event, meaning it is run by people dedicated to our cause. We partner with CMNH so that the presence of those receiving the donations is part of the event.
For more information on participating as a sponsor, team or volunteer, please contact Erin Kelly-McGuinness at firstname.lastname@example.org or 908-347-7421.
