Environment Health Program

Environmental Health Program is under the Division of Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. At the present time it’s staffed with the following:

  1. One full time Air Pollution Inspector
  2. One full time Public Health Investigator who is a New Jersey Licensed Registered Environmental Health Specialist.
  3. One part time Registered Environmental Health Specialist
  4. Three full time Registered Environmental Health Specialists

Services

The following activities are performed by staff of the Environmental Health Division:

  • Inspections and spot checks on all solid waste facilities to ensure compliance with all state and local laws
  • Inspections of all Day Care Centers at least once a year
  • Inspections of all facilities that have Dance Hall Licenses at least once a year
  • Inspections of all Nail Salons in the City of Elizabeth at least once a year
  • Inspections of all Recreational Bathing facilities in the City of Elizabeth at least once a year
  • Inspections of all Retail Food Establishments in the City of Elizabeth at least once a year
  • Inspections of all Schools at least twice a year
  • Inspections on all food vendors for special events
  • Inspections on all tire shops in the City of Elizabeth at least once a year
  • Investigate all environmental and public health related complaints
  • Plan reviews on all newly constructed establishments or establishments that propose to do major renovations
  • Pre-Operational Inspections of all NJ Licensed Youth Camps once a year
  • Pre-Operational Inspections on every new establishment and every existing establishment that changes ownership
  • Special investigations and other assignments as needed to include embargoes, tax seizures
